Ven. Sangye Khadro

California-born Ven. Sangye Khadro ordained as a Buddhist nun at Kopan Monastery in 1974. She took full (bhikshuni) ordination in 1988. While studying at Nalanda Monastery in France during the 1980s, she helped establish Dorje Pamo Nunnery.

Ven. Sangye Khadro has studied with many renowned Buddhist masters, including His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Lama Zopa Rinpoche, Lama Yeshe, Geshe Ngawang Dhargyey, and Khensur Jampa Tegchok. 

At her teachers’ request, she began teaching in 1980 and has since taught in numerous countries around the world, occasionally taking time off for personal retreats. She served as resident teacher in Buddha House in Australia, Amitabha Buddhist Centre in Singapore, and the FPMT centre in Denmark, and completed the FPMT Masters Program at Istituto Lama Tzong Khapa in Italy (2008–2013).  Since 2017, Ven. Sangye Khadro has been a teacher and resident at Sravasti Abbey in Washington State. 

She is the author of several books, including the best-selling classic How to Meditate which has been translated into thirteen languages and is now in its 17th printing.  Some of her courses and retreat topics include Meditative Concentration, Good Grief, Awakening a Kind Heart, Peaceful Living / Peaceful Dying, Green Tara and Chenrezig Retreats.
