Compassion in Action

Our region is home to many community service projects that bring Buddhist values into the wider world, demonstrating how Buddhism is lived, not only studied.

Liberation Prison Project envisions a world where every incarcerated person has access to the transformative power of the Dharma. LPP empowers individuals on their spiritual journey of exploration, learning, growth and personal transformation through Buddhist study and mentorship.

A hospice and supportive care initiative offering end-of-life guidance infused with dignity, presence and compassionate listening—helping individuals and families meet life’s final moments with awareness and peace.

A compassionate learning community offering elementary education for children ages 2-11, grounded in mindfulness, ethical awareness and social responsibility. Academic learning is woven together with emotional growth and meaningful engagement in the wider community.

The Creating Compassionate Cultures framework guides the school’s approach—a unique integration of ancient wisdom and modern science. Adaptable for teachers, parents and students alike, CCC fosters kindness, awareness and resilience. At its core, it is a path of personal transformation that supports learning from the inside out.

A Buddhist institution of higher learning offering a Master of Arts in Buddhist Studies, a Master of Divinity Degree, Continuing Education courses and community programming. Founded upon the three pillars of scholarship, meditation and service, the Maitripa College curriculum combines Western academic contemplative education and traditional Tibetan Buddhist disciplines.

Manages and preserves the audio and video recordings, transcripts and advice, formal and informal video, and images of FPMT founders Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche collected over the past fifty years, from the early 1970s through 2023. Offers many free resources such as books, videos, audio, images, online advice and more to inspire deeper meaning and compassion in everyday life.

Home to Wisdom Academy for online Buddhist courses, Wisdom Podcast for conversations with Buddhist teachers and scholars, and Wisdom Experience, a membership platform which provides hundreds of hours of Buddhist videos and thousands of pages of books for members to read online.

The International Mahayana Institute is the global community of FPMT’s monks and nuns. Founded by Lama Yeshe in 1973, IMI supports ordained practitioners with training, community life and personal wellbeing, helping them become inspiring examples of wisdom and ethical living.

IMI monks and nuns live and serve in communities around the world, including within FPMT centers across North America. Through their study, teaching and dedicated service, they help preserve the living tradition of the Buddha’s teachings and bring compassion and wisdom into daily life.
